The idea arose as a result of knowing that more and more companies are deciding to install these devices in their establishments; both to offer safety to their customers and their employees, in the face of the great problem of cardiac arrest: 1st cause of death in our country and in the world.
In the hospitality industry, a trend is beginning to emerge where tour operators demand that hotels must have a semiautomatic defibrillator and trained personnel to do so as one of the requirements to be met.
And following the new decree 22/2012 of February 14 (BOJA), which requires the installation of semi-automatic defibrillators in shopping centers, sports venues, retail stores over 2500 square meters, etc. in Andalusia, we think it can be a reality, focusing our sights on the hotel field, taking into account the number of hotel establishments in the province of Malaga.

A small analysis shows that:
It is estimated that more than 24,500 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in Spain each year. out-of-hospital cardiac arrestswhich is equivalent to an average of one every 20 minutes.
In Europe, it is estimated that cardiopulmonary arrest affects 700,000 people. Eighty percent of CA are secondary to coronary heart disease.
In Spain, 68,500 patients suffer an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) each year, of whom approximately 30% die before they can be treated in a hospital.
Ventricular fibrillation is initially responsible for up to 85% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.
The effectiveness of early defibrillation in the recovery of an effective cardiac rhythm is 90% when defibrillation can be performed within the first minute of ventricular fibrillation (VF).

After analyzing these data, which perfectly represent the raison d’être of the Cardiosecured Hotels, we can conclude that we are facing a serious health problem and that there is a need to act and contribute to the expansion of the installation of these devices, since it can increase the survival rate of victims by 80-90%.
The quality of a company’s employees, their commitment and satisfaction in their work is essential to guarantee the productivity of the business. But how much is a life worth?

If our personnel are trained, they will be able to save lives on the job or will be able to act for the rest of their lives when faced with a person in need of help. Do not forget to call the health professionals, who will finish the intervention.
It is essential that our personnel acquire sufficient knowledge, skills and attitudes to be able to recognize life-threatening situations and act immediately by applying Life Support techniques according to the standards agreed upon by the European Committees and the National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Plan of the Spanish Society of Medicine.
Why install an AED?
The AED is a device that allows the application of an electric shock to patients with arrhythmia, called ventricular fibrillation, which precedes cardiac arrest and is the leading cause of death in our country, four times higher than the victims of traffic accidents. The electric shock paralyzes the arrhythmic heart and allows it to recover its rhythm. If this electrical therapy is not applied quickly in these circumstances, death occurs within minutes.
AEDs are devices that can be used by non-medical personnel, only with minimal training, since their use is surprisingly simple. Although there is a national regulation, some autonomous communities, including Andalusia, have established their own regulations governing the use of these devices (Royal Decree 200/2001 of September 11, Annex 1).
In the United States and England, these devices are already part of the urban landscape of cities and homes. Some Americans are even buying home defibrillators to keep at home in case of an emergency.
For every minute that a person in ventricular fibrillation goes without resuscitative maneuvers, the chances of survival are reduced by 10%.
That is why we believe that the installation of defibrillators in hotels (cardio-safe hotels) is a great project because the day to day reminds us that it can happen to anyone. And having trained personnel the only thing we have to hope for is not to have to use our knowledge.
This is why Hotel Lima supports the CardioSafe Hotels project .
